VISTORBELITUNG.COM,LONDON – The United Kingdom and Germany are significantly accelerating the development of a new long-range precision strike missile, UK Defence Secretary John Healey has confirmed. This advanced weapon system, designed to have a range exceeding 2,000 kilometres (approximately 1,243 miles), is a key project under the bilateral Trinity House Defence Agreement.
Speaking in the House of Commons, Defence Secretary Healey described the rapid progress as a major milestone for the UK-German partnership, which was formally signed in May 2025.
“We have accelerated work on a new 2,000 km deep precision strike missile,” Healey told MPs, emphasising the pace of the joint industrial and military cooperation.
The joint missile programme is seen as a crucial effort to bolster European security and reinforce NATO deterrence, particularly on the Alliance's eastern flank amid heightened global tensions. The new capability will offer both nations a significantly enhanced ability to hit strategic targets at long range.
• Range: Over 2,000 km.
• Goal: To establish a 'Deep Precision Strike' capability for strategic deterrence.
• Framework: The Trinity House Agreement, a landmark defence pact between the UK and Germany.
The British Ministry of Defence (MoD) has previously described the future weapon as one of the most advanced systems ever developed by the UK, capable of safeguarding the British public and strengthening the European defence posture. The initiative is also projected to drive substantial investment into the defence sectors of both countries, sustaining thousands of high-skilled jobs.
The missile project is part of a wider commitment by the UK and Germany to deepen operational and industrial collaboration. Other areas of the Trinity House Agreement currently underway include:
• Joint activities in cyber security.
• Joint procurement for Sting Ray torpedoes for use on P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft.
• Increased operational collaboration, such as German P-8s flying out of RAF Lossiemouth.
Defence Secretary Healey reiterated that the UK-German strategic partnership is "making a positive impact on our security and economy," underscoring its vital importance to European defence and Britain's industrial base.
