VISTORBELITUNG.COM,MEMBALONG, BELITUNG – Forget the pristine white sand and turquoise waters for a moment. Belitung, the famed “Island of the Rainbow Troops,” holds a geological marvel deep within its southern territory that offers a different kind of natural spectacle: Geosite Batu Baginde. Located in Padang Kandis Village, Membalong District, Belitung Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands (Postcode 33452), this majestic site invites adventurers and nature lovers to conquer its towering granite peaks.

While the surrounding area of Belitung is renowned for the Batu Satam (Billitonite) – a black, glassy stone scientifically proven to be a tektite formed from a meteor impact around 700,000 years ago – the enormous rocks of Batu Baginde itself are ancient granite formations. Scientific studies indicate that these colossal granites date back to the Jurassic Period, an astonishing 208 million years ago, making it a true journey back to the age of the dinosaurs.

The geosite consists of two massive granite rocks, locally known as Batu Baginde (often translated as "The King’s Stone" or "Majestic Stone"), which stand tall against the lush greenery of the surrounding forest. Local lore often personifies these two rocks as a couple, adding a layer of cultural mysticism to the stunning landscape.

Batu Baginde is a key destination within the Belitong Geopark. The main attraction here is the exhilarating climb to the summit. Although the trek itself is generally considered manageable, taking approximately 15 minutes to reach the top, it requires good physical preparation and sturdy footwear, especially for the steeper sections where pre-installed stairs assist visitors.

The effort is instantly rewarded. From the peak, visitors are treated to a spectacular panoramic view that stretches across the vast expanse of the Natuna Sea, the beautiful coastline, and the unspoiled green carpet of the forest below Padang Kandis Village. It is arguably one of the best spots in Southern Belitung to capture stunning sunrise or sunset photographs.

Beyond its geological significance and breathtaking views, Batu Baginde is deeply rooted in local culture. Historically, the area was revered by the community, often regarded as a sacred location for spiritual activities. Although these practices have largely faded, the inherent spiritual atmosphere and the rich local narratives surrounding the rocks continue to make a visit to Batu Baginde a unique blend of adventure, history, and cultural exploration.

Geosite Batu Baginde (Coordinates: QJJF+X7P) is situated about 64 kilometers from H.A.S. Hanandjoeddin Airport (Tanjung Pandan), requiring approximately one and a half hours of driving through scenic village roads and palm oil plantations. For a truly unforgettable trip to Belitung, a stop at the majestic Geosite Batu Baginde is a must-do for any traveler seeking both natural grandeur and a rich sense of place.
