VISTORBELITUNG.COM,TANAH DATAR – West Sumatra is never short of stunning natural tourist destinations. Among the most talked-about spots in 2022 was the Proclamator Waterfall (Air Terjun Proklamator), a true hidden gem that provides an utterly natural bathing experience nestled deep in the mountains.
Located precisely in Jorong Aia Mancua, Nagari Singgalang, Sepuluh Koto District, Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra, this waterfall became a sensation for local and outside tourists due to its pristine condition and mesmerizing water.
The Proclamator Waterfall is situated at the foot of Mount Singgalang, close to the hiking route of Mount Tandikek via Mega Mendung. It officially opened around 2020, but it reached its peak popularity in 2022, rapidly becoming a favorite 'healing' destination for the urban crowd.
The waterfall's height is estimated to be between 15 to 20 meters, with the flowing water originating from Telaga Dewi (Dewi Lake) on Mount Singgalang. This waterfall is actually the third level of seven water streams flowing down the mountain.
The main attraction? The natural pool (lubuak) at its base. The water is incredibly clear, cold, and fresh, often displaying a captivating blue or turquoise color when the sun is bright. This deep, spacious pool invites visitors to swim, dive, or simply soak and enjoy the magical scenery.
Why the name "Proclamator"? This natural wonder was first discovered and developed by the Mapala Proklamator (Proclamator Student Nature Lovers) from Bung Hatta University. The name serves as a tribute, linking the natural site to the historical figures of the Indonesian Proclamation.
The area is dominated by dense protected forest, thick moss, and the sounds of nature, creating an exotic, raw, and highly refreshing environment.
Accessibility and Visitor Tips
While the waterfall is located close to the well-known Lembah Anai area, accessing it requires a bit of an effort, adding to the sense of adventure:
Parking: Vehicles must be parked at a designated area, typically across the main road near the former Mangguang Restaurant building.
Trekking: From the parking area, visitors must embark on a 15 to 30-minute trek on foot. The path is still natural, a mix of soil and rocks, and can be quite slippery when it rains. Wearing proper trekking shoes or mountain sandals is strongly recommended.
Operating Hours: The site typically operates from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM WIB daily. Management enforces a strict policy for visitors to leave the area by 6:00 PM at the latest, as the trekking path has no lighting after dark.
Entrance Fee: The ticket price (around 2022) was affordable, including parking.
Facilities: Basic facilities like changing rooms and toilets are available near the waterfall. However, to maintain the site's natural state, there are no food or drink vendors at the waterfall location, so visitors must bring their own supplies.
Rules: Visitors are strictly prohibited from littering, damaging the environment, and camping overnight in the area.
Proclamator Waterfall is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a truly natural, cold, and breathtaking bathing experience in West Sumatra. Be sure to prepare your camera and your trekking gear for this unforgettable adventure!
